The Process of Nail Polish Manufacturing

Nail polish mainly consists of solvent, resin, nitrocellulose, colorant , plasticizer and suspending agent.The modern manufacturing process is a very sophisticated operation utilizing high skilled workers, advanced machinery. Today’s consumers expect a nail polish to apply smoothly, evenly, to set relatively quickly, and to be resistant to chipping and peeling. Most of all, the polish should be innocuous to the body. • The mixer should provide sufficient movement inside the tank to mix light powders which is easy to float, and to stop dense solids from sinking to the bottom of the tank.

• The pigments are mixed with nitrocellulose and plasticizer in the stainless steel kettle for nitrocellulose is extremely reactive in the presence of iron. This stage is to attain fine dispersion of the color.

• Materials are mixed in closed kettles. At the end of the process, the mix is cooled slightly before the addition of such other materials as perfumes and moisturizers.

• The finished nail polish is pumped into explosion proof pumps, and then into smaller bottles suitable for the retail market.

The problem of Traditional Nail Polish Mixer

Several problems can be caused by traditional nail polish mixer:

• The characteristic of nitrocellulose is inclined to sink to the bottom of the vessel.

• Nitrocellulose will be sticky when contact with solvent and easy to aggolomerate and stick to the walls of the vessel.

• The washing action of agitators need much time to dissovle the resin.

• Heating is helpful with dissolving, however it increases production costs and results in volatile and flammable solvent.

• It is difficult to get some powders floating on the surface totally wet.

• Poor pigment dispersion is bad for color strength and stability.

• High speed dispersers is good for dissolving resins and dispersing colorant, but they consume a large amount of energy.

The vessel is filled with solvent and the resin chips . The ingredients are drawn into the workhead by the high speed rotation of rotor. The powerful centrifugal force drives both the solids and liquids to the narrow gap between the rotor and stator.
