Major uses of homogenizing equipment in various industries

Homogenization is basically a scientific process used in creating a mixture of two non-soluble liquids or fluids, making them the same all throughout. This seemingly impossible feat can be achieved by a modern homogenizing equipment, which transforms one of the fluids into extremely tiny particles, and having them uniformly scattered all over the other liquid. The following are some of the important uses and applications of the homogenization process:

  • Drug production

Pharmaceutical manufacturers and medicinal researchers have been using the process of homogenization for decades. Common applications are in the mixing and blending of solutions and powders, degassing of samples, and creation of crystals for medicinal compounds. Creation of lipid vesicles, known as liposomes, which are necessary in studying mechanisms for the discovery of drugs are also possible via the process of homogenization.

  • Emulsification

Water in oil emulsification is a homogenization process. Mixing these two compounds via a homogenization machine is faster and more efficient instead of doing it through the traditional or manual way. Emulsification is also a common process within the cosmetic industry. For instance, liquid make-up is homogenized in order to disperse coloring or pigment uniformly.  Such technique is also a widely used one in the toothpaste and lotion industries.

  • Ultrasonic Cleansing

Little is known about effective cleaning by way of sonication / homogenization. In fact, it is much more efficient to use this process when cleansing and sanitizing bath items than if cleaning is done in a traditional manner. For one thing, ultrasonic cleansing is highly effective and less time-consuming. The real benefit of this technique is the efficiency of cleansing bath or similar materials that have tiny openings, such as wire or needle dies. Sonic type is also effective in cleaning electronic items.

  • Environment

Homogenization is utilized in environmental labs. Specifically, ultrasonic type is applied when testing samples of soils, water, or sediments. Before ultrasonic homogenization, environmental testing requires hours or even days of tedious work. The samples needed to be checked are voluminous. The use of the latest homogenization methods has made testing easier and more efficient as it allows researchers to cut testing time from hours into a few minutes.

Most common homogenization technology

Considered to be a tried-and-tested and efficient homogenizing technology is the rotor stator homogenization. Initially available for use in the late 50s, its extremely effectiveness has rendered this particular homogenizing principle to remain the same throughout the years.

Rotor/stator homogenizing equipment is proven to be an effective machine used in various industries. It is highly depended upon when it comes to performing a number of processes, like homogenization, disruption, emulsification, and blending.

For instance, homogenization process is effective in testing difficult materials, such as a tissue sample. Rotor and stator homogenizer machines are utilized whenever possible for every type of homogenizing task in laboratories and research facilities.

With rotor stator machine, processing time has become very short. The homogenization cycle itself is quick and efficient, with changes in sample temperature rise often minimized or even eliminated.
